What is Radiofrequency Microneedling?

If your skin is not looking as young and radiant as you would like, one treatment to consider is radiofrequency microneedling.  Dr. Scott Sanders and Dr. Shilesh Iyer of Scott Sanders Dermatology in New City, NY offer this service as well as many others to help you look your very best.

What Is Radiofrequency Microneedling?

Radiofrequency microneedling is a procedure that uses tiny needs attached to a roller that causes micro-trauma to the skin. The tiny needles emit radio waves that raise the temperature of the dermis. When your skin is injured, it responds by producing new skin and collagen. This produces smoother, more radiant skin. It typically takes more than one treatment to reach the desired result.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Radiofrequency Microneedling?

To be a good candidate for radiofrequency microneedling, you need to be in good health. You also need to have reasonable expectations. This procedure can be used on skin of all types. If you are currently suffering from acne, an infection, or do not have excellent wound healing, there may be other procedures better suited for you.

What Conditions Benefit From Radiofrequency Microneedling?

Radiofrequency microneedling can be a very helpful treatment for stretch marks, hyperpigmentation, large pores, acne scars, and other types of scars as well. Fine lines and wrinkles, cellulite and sagging skin all respond well to microneedling.

Does the Treatment Hurt?

When you arrive at the office, the area being treated will be cleansed and then a local topical anesthetic will be applied. The procedure will not begin for between 30 minutes and an hour. This allows the anesthetic to take effect and the treatment won't begin until you are totally numb. The procedure takes 10 to 20 minutes to perform, and after it is completed, a special solution will be applied to reduce any discomfort. No downtime will be required after the procedure.

Will I Need More Than One Treatment?

Typically, it takes a few sessions to get the desired results. It really depends on the depth of your scars or wrinkles. It takes time for the skin to procure the necessary collagen. When you are finished with treatment, you can expect results to last between three to six months. Many patients find that getting two treatments a year gives them a consistently good outcome.
